BARCELONA


Barcelona is the capital of the autonomic community of Catalonia, in Spain. It has
approximately 1,650,000 inhabitants. It is also the capital of the Barcelona province and the
second largest city of Spain. It is the main industry and trading centre of the country.
Barcelona's main manufactured articles are textiles, precision instruments, machinery,
railroad equipment, paper, glass and plastics. The city is one of the busiest Mediterranean
ports and a financial and publishing centre in Spain. Among the cultural institutions we can
find the University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Royal Archives
of Aragon, the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Ancient Art, and the Museum of
Modern Art. The city hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1992. The Olympic Village and
other districts of the city were modernised by a massive city council redevelopment
programme.
